About the Company

Our client is the exclusive distributor of a leading motorcycle brand in Uganda. Founded in 2013, the company imports, assembles, and distributes motorcycles and genuine spare parts across Uganda, with a strong export footprint to South Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Operating from the Namanve Industrial Park, the business combines high-volume spare-parts trading with motorcycle distribution, assembly, and after-sales service. As the company scales, the Operations function is central to delivering reliable supply, efficient distribution, and strong service levels across the region.

Job Purpose

The Operations Manager will lead and optimise the end-to-end operations of the business – from importation and clearing, through warehousing and assembly, to distribution and after-sales service. The role ensures that goods move efficiently, costs are controlled, service levels are met, and operational risks are managed.

The role works closely with Finance, Procurement, Sales, and the Managing Director to translate commercial targets into operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operations Strategy & Planning
Develop and implement operational plans aligned with the company’s sales, growth, and expansion targets.
Set operational KPIs (order fulfilment, turnaround time, cost per unit, stock accuracy) and report performance monthly.
Identify and drive continuous improvement across the supply chain.
2. Importation, Clearing & Logistics
Oversee the importation cycle: supplier coordination, shipping documentation, customs clearing, and inland transport.
Work with clearing agents and freight forwarders to minimise demurrage, storage, and delays.
Coordinate cross-border movement of goods to DRC, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
3. Warehousing & Distribution
Manage the head office warehouse and branch stores for efficiency, safety, and accuracy.
Oversee receipt, storage, picking, dispatch, and delivery of motorcycles and spare parts.
Ensure stock accuracy through cycle counts and full stock takes in coordination with Finance.
4. Assembly & After-Sales Support
Oversee motorcycle assembly operations (CKD kits) to quality and timeline standards.
Support after-sales service operations, including warranty handling, spare parts availability, and dealer support.
5. Fleet, Transport & Logistics Partners
Manage company vehicles, delivery logistics, and third-party transport providers.
Optimise route planning, delivery costs, and turnaround times.
6. Team Leadership
Lead and develop the operations team (warehouse, logistics, assembly, dispatch).
Set clear targets, conduct performance reviews, and build capability.
7. Risk, Compliance & Safety
Enforce health, safety, and security standards across all operational sites.
Identify operational risks (stock loss, theft, delays, supplier failure) and implement controls.

Qualifications & Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Professional certifications in Supply Chain (e.g., CIPS or CSCP) are highly desirable.
• Proficiency in SAP is a mandatory requirement.
• Strong command of the English language.
• Proficiency in French and/or Swahili is considered an added advantage.

Experience Requirements

• 5–8 years of professional experience in operations, logistics, or supply chain management.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role.
• Proven track record in distribution, automotive, motorcycle, FMCG, or spare-parts environments.
• In-depth technical knowledge of import/export procedures and customs clearing.
• Extensive experience in warehousing and inventory management systems.
