Reports To: Operations Manager / Finance Manager / General Manager
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Gross Salary: UGX 2,000,000

About the Company

Our client is a leading motorcycle and spare parts importation and distribution company based in Namanve, Kampala, with regional export operations into DRC, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Tanzania.

The company operates a bonded warehouse for imported goods, requiring strict compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) customs and bonded warehouse regulations.

Job Purpose

The Bonded Warehouse Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the bonded warehouse, ensuring full compliance with URA customs regulations, accurate stock records, secure storage, and timely clearance and release of goods.

The role is critical in protecting the company from customs penalties, ensuring duty obligations are met, and maintaining an audit-ready bonded facility.

Key Responsibilities

1. Bonded Warehouse Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with URA bonded warehouse regulations and customs procedures.
• Maintain accurate bonded stock records and reconcile with URA systems.
• Prepare and submit all required customs documentation and returns.
• Manage bonds, guarantees, and duty obligations in coordination with Finance.

2. Stock Control & Accuracy

• Maintain real-time records of all goods entering, stored in, and leaving the bonded warehouse.
• Conduct regular cycle counts and full stock takes.
• Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies immediately.

3. Goods Receipt, Storage & Release

• Oversee receipt of imported consignments and verification against documentation.
• Ensure proper storage, segregation, and security of bonded goods.
• Manage release of goods upon duty payment and proper authorisation.

4. Customs & Regulatory Liaison

• Act as the primary liaison with URA customs officers, clearing agents, and freight forwarders.
• Handle inspections, audits, and queries from customs authorities.
• Keep current with changes in customs law and bonded warehouse requirements.

5. Security & Loss Prevention

• Enforce access control, CCTV monitoring, and security protocols.
• Prevent theft, shrinkage, and unauthorised removal of goods.

6. Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain complete, audit-ready documentation for all bonded transactions.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly bonded stock and compliance reports.
• Support internal and external audits.

7. Team Leadership

• Supervise warehouse staff, security, and casual labour.
• Train staff on customs compliance and warehouse procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Customs Management, Business, or a related field.

Professional Experience

• 5+ years of total experience in warehouse management.
• At least 3 years of direct experience in a bonded warehouse environment.
• Proven track record in importation, distribution, automotive, or FMCG sectors preferred.

Technical Skills & Compliance

• Strong working knowledge of URA customs procedures and bonded warehouse regulations.
• Deep understanding of import documentation and clearance processes.
• Proficiency in ERP and warehouse management systems (WMS).
• Hands-on experience with customs portals, specifically URA ASYCUDA.

Languages

• Proficiency in English is required.
• Knowledge of Swahili or French is considered an added advantage.
