Department: Finance & Inventory Control
Reports To: Finance Manager / Senior Accountant
Location: Nairobi, Kenya (with periodic travel to Uganda, DRCongo / regional sites as required)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Gross Salary: KES 65,000

Our client is a growing motorcycle and spare parts importation and distribution group with headquarters in Kampala, Uganda, and regional operations across DRC, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Tanzania.

The company maintains high-volume inventory across multiple warehouses, branches, and cross-border locations, requiring strong independent stock audit and control capability.

Job Purpose

The Stock Auditor / Controller is responsible for independently verifying the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of inventory across warehouses, branches, and distribution points. The role designs and executes stock audit programmes, investigates variances, and strengthens inventory controls to prevent loss, shrinkage, and fraud.

This is an independent control function – the role does not manage stock operations, but audits them.

Key Responsibilities

1. Stock Audit Programme

  • Design and execute periodic stock audit plans across all warehouses and branches.
  • Conduct surprise and scheduled stock counts and reconciliations.
  • Verify physical stock against system records (ERP) and investigate variances.

2. Variance Investigation & Reporting

  • Investigate root causes of stock discrepancies, shrinkage, and losses.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports with findings, root causes, and recommendations.
  • Report independently to Finance Manager and Senior Management.

3. Inventory Control Assessment

  • Assess the effectiveness of inventory controls (receipt, storage, picking, dispatch, returns).
  • Identify control weaknesses and recommend improvements.
  • Monitor implementation of audit recommendations.

4. Reconciliation & Data Integrity

  • Reconcile stock movements: purchases, transfers, sales, returns, and write-offs.
  • Verify landed cost allocation and inventory valuation inputs.
  • Review obsolete / slow-moving stock and flag for provisioning.

5. Cross-Border & Branch Audits

  • Conduct audits at branch locations and cross-border distribution points.
  • Verify export stock documentation and movement records.

6. Process Improvement

  • Recommend and support implementation of stronger stock controls and SOPs.
  • Support ERP improvements for inventory tracking and reporting.

7. Fraud & Loss Prevention

  • Identify indicators of theft, fraud, or collusion in stock handling.
  • Work with internal audit and management on investigations.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, Logistics, or a related field.

Professional Certification

  • CPA / ACCA (Level II+ preferred).
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or CISA is considered a significant advantage.

Professional Experience

  • 4–6 years of experience in stock auditing, inventory control, or internal audit.
  • Experience within distribution, retail, FMCG, or the automotive industry is highly preferred.

Technical Skills & Systems

  • Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, costing methods, and internal controls.
  • High proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, or Sage.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Language & Travel

  • English language proficiency is required.
  • Kiswahili and/or French language skills are an added advantage.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to regional branches and sites (Uganda, DRC) as required.
