Job Title: Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Department: Infrastructure & Cloud Operations
Reports To: Chief Technology Officer

Location: Nakawa Business Park, Kampala
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Grade / Band: Senior Technical Staff
Salary: KES 200,000(negotiable depending on experience)

This role is specifically targeting professionals with hands-on experience managing data centres.

Role Summary:

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is the technical backbone of the company’s cloud and on-premises infrastructure operations. This role combines hands-on engineering leadership with strategic oversight – designing, deploying, securing, and continuously optimizing the diverse cloud landscapes and the company-owned data centre that underpin client SAP Business One deployments and corporate systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor the Infrastructure Engineering team (Infrastructure Engineers and Support Engineers).
  • Define and enforce infrastructure engineering standards, security baselines, and operational runbooks.
  • Design, deploy, secure, and optimize multi-platform environments: company-owned DC, Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Hetzner Cloud.
  • Manage SAP HANA & Microsoft SQL Server database infrastructure.
  • Establish Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) standards (Terraform, ARM/Bicep, CloudFormation).
  • Oversee network security, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and cost optimization.
  • Lead incident response as the primary escalation point for complex infrastructure incidents (P1/P2 events).
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours infrastructure incidents.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of infrastructure engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Hands-on data centre experience (physical servers, storage, networking, rack planning, power/cooling, hypervisors like VMware/Hyper-V).
  • Proven hands-on experience with SAP HANA installation, sizing, and administration in cloud environments.
  • Demonstrable experience managing Microsoft Azure and/or AWS production environments at scale.
  • Strong Linux (SLES, RHEL, Ubuntu) and Windows Server (2019/2022) administration skills.
  • Experience with enterprise backup, DR, and high-availability solutions.
  • Experience with IaC tools (ARM/Bicep or CloudFormation).

Preferred Certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Administrator Associate.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional.
  • SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP HANA 2.0 (on Cloud or on-premises).
  • Experience with Hetzner Cloud environments.
  • Exposure to security frameworks: CIS Benchmarks, ISO 27001, NIST CSF.

Working Conditions & Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours infrastructure incidents (initial response within 30 minutes for P1 events).
  • Must maintain ≥40 hours of continuing education and certification activity annually.
  • This role handles sensitive client and company data and requires adherence to data security and confidentiality policies at all times.
  • A background check may be required prior to appointment.
  • Ability to work from Nakawa Business Park, Kampala (on-site presence required for data centre management).
  • Conduct regular health checks of all client cloud and on-prem environments.
