Location: Namanve, Uganda
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: UGX 3,500,000 per month + Company Benefits

Role Summary

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of the company’s financial records. This position oversees day-to-day accounting operations, supports timely financial reporting, strengthens internal controls, and ensures full compliance with statutory and tax requirements.

The successful candidate will also provide leadership, technical guidance, and mentorship to junior accounting staff, promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

1. General Ledger Review & Financial Controls

  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records in a timely manner.

2. Assets Management

  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register.
  • Ensure proper asset capitalization, depreciation, and disposal processes.
  • Conduct periodic asset verifications and reconciliations.

3. Receivables Management

  • Oversee accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely invoicing and collections.
  • Monitor debtor aging and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Implement strategies to minimize bad debts and improve cash flow.

4. Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide actionable insights to support management decision-making.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.

5. Tax Compliance

  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of all tax returns (VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, etc.).
  • Ensure full compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements (URA, NSSF, etc.).
  • Liaise with tax authorities and external auditors when required.

6. Leadership & Team Support

  • Supervise and support junior accounting staff (2–4 team members).
  • Provide technical guidance, on-the-job training, and mentorship to the team.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications, Experience & Key Skills

RequirementDetail
EducationBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (mandatory).
Professional QualificationACCA or CPA (Level II or fully qualified preferred).
Experience4–6 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a distribution, manufacturing, or trading environment.
Technical KnowledgeStrong knowledge of IFRS, Ugandan tax laws (URA), and internal controls.
SystemsProficiency in SAP is an added advantage.
SoftwareAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas) required.
